I am a major wimp

These guys are insane!  Brave takes on a whole new meaning when I watch this.  Or maybe brave doesn’t cover it and crazy comes into play.

A New Maternity Series

I am really excited to share with you a new belly shot series I am starting of my friend Montgomery Lee.  We got together one night right after her and Randy told Chad and I she was pregnant and we brainstormed on how we should take her belly shots each week.  We decided that she would paint one of their walls with chalkboard paint and we would write each week all the details on the board instead of me photo-shopping the week onto the photo.  I love this idea and think this series is going to be a lot of fun.  I am also looking forward to hanging out with Montgomery Lee each week and sharing this fun time with her.  So here is the first photo.  She is so cute and can’t wait to meet their little one!!!!

Week 17!!!

I need to think of a fun name for this series so if any one has any ideas let me know!

Charleston, SC

Here are a few fun photos from our recent vacation to Charleston.

Miss Ada Tomata received a new nickname on the trip . . . . Ada Gata.

You know- since we were in low country and apparently there are lots of gators.  But I didn’t see any.

Ada Gata turned 2 months on this special tip.

sister, sisters, there were never such devoted sisters . . .

First time swimming.  I believe she will love the beach and water just like her momma!

We had a great first vacation with the gata!

Perfect timing

I always said I would be late to my child’s birth because I feel like I am late to everything.  A characteristic I have been working on.  Well Miss Ada didn’t let us be late.  She came on her due date.  I had just about the perfect pregnancy, semi perfect labor (everything went so smoothly- I just had horrible back labor the entire time) and now a perfect baby.

Here is a quick recap for those who haven’t heard.  My water broke at 5:30am Sunday, May 15th.  My contractions started within 30 min and within 2 hours my contractions were about 4-5 min apart and really intense.  I was looking at Chad asking “Isn’t this suppose to be the easy part?”  I had no time to mentally prepare myself, eat a light snack, or even get dressed to head to the hospital.  The contractions were so intense because of my back labor and because they were coupling (one contraction on top of another before the first one ended- no breaks!)  I couldn’t do anything.  I started getting nauseous and vomiting so we decided go ahead and head to the hospital so I could get something to make the nausea stop.  We had what seemed like the longest car ride ever!  Got lost in the parking lot and went up the wrong elevators.  We looked like something straight out of a movie.  Chad was carrying his bag, Ada’s bag, my birthing ball, our pillows, the camera bag and I was following behind him trying to roll my suitcase, wearing who knows what with wet hair because I had tried to take a shower when I had first started contracting.  I would stop and just squat where ever we were when a contraction hit, try not to make too many weird noises and make the innocent bystanders uncomfortable.  It took all I had not to throw up right there in the elevator.  I wish someone had taken a photo of us.  We were a mess.

We arrived and my sister was there waiting on us.  She rubbed my back as I stood over a trash can while Chad checked me in.   It was a long, extremely hard process and I couldn’t have done it without my amazing partner.  Chad knew what to do the entire time, helped me cope with the pain, encouraged me when I was asking for an epidural, and communicated to others to make sure everyone knew what I needed and wanted- especially when I couldn’t communicate what my needs were.  It was a team effort and my mom, sister and Chad helped me through it all and we achieved my goal of having our baby naturally and with no epidural.  13 hours of intense back labor and I did it!!!

Here are a few photos of right after Ada was born.

Our family was waiting out in the waiting room all day and finally got to meet our sweet baby around 9:00pm Sunday night.  The next day we had so many visitors.  We felt so loved and blessed to have such great friends, family, and such a supportive church.  It takes a village to raise a child and we couldn’t ask for a better community to help us raise our sweet girl.

We were so blessed to have our friend Josh Reeder come visit and take some amazing photos of our baby on Monday.  Here are a few of my favorites.

Chad the swaddling master!

We named Miss Ada Carden Hill Tuesday morning as we were leaving the hospital.  I think we drove everyone crazy waiting to name her but I am so glad we did.  Her name suits her.  We just wanted to make sure the name fit.

Week 27

This past week our little one, who is the size of cauliflower, has been kicking so much it is starting to hurt.  I think I am going to be blessed with a very spunky, active, little lady.  Even when we were having our ultrasound at 20 weeks she was moving so much it took 2 hours to measure everything and figure out the sex.   I can foresee that come May I will have 3 “wild childs” in the house.  Our new little one, our dog Willow, and my lovely husband Chad.  :)  At least we won’t have a boring home.

Week 25

I just finished another crazy week of directing video shoots all week.  I am so thankful that I have been feeling so good.  I definitely am exhausted by the end of everyday but I am so lucky that I am able to keep up with the hard work load.  I also finished up editing my last wedding from this past year.  I am officially caught up on all photography work.  Yeah!

In other news, I have been having a hard time cutting back on my photography shoots.  I have so many friends and great clients that want me to capture their family or their special day.  I have had a really hard time saying no, and still can’t say no sometimes- but I have to slow down and take a break with my photography until August.  It’s one of my goals and something that must happen.  I just love working with my friends and past clients so much it’s hard to say no and recommend someone else.  I think making myself write this will hold me accountable- hopefully.  :)

This weekend we begin the process of decorating the nursery.  Big thanks to my mom for making me not procrastinate any longer.  If it were up to me the room and the curtains would stay the same and we would just take out the guest bed and add a crib. I want to get excited about decorating the nursery but I just feel like I don’t have the time or energy to put effort into it.  The baby won’t know what the nursery looks like.  :)  So anyways we are painting this weekend.  A nice non-girly light Grey.

On to the anticipated Week 25 shot.

Friends who are like family and their cute little boys

I am so honored that I get to photograph this family every year.  I always look forward to their session.  Even though I don’t get to see Felicia but once or twice a month- she is always challenging me and my faith and I am a better person because of her.  Her family is a blessing and her boys are the cutest!  Love you guys.

pretty fields and pretty families

Check out Jake’s smile below!  He is adorable!

I’m sitting here with my hot drink, heater on, and warm winter clothes on looking back at these photos I took this summer and already miss the warmth.

Maybe not the sweating.  But I’m not a fan of shivering in the cold and a tense body.

Tim and Nicole asked me to take photos of their family and Nicole and her brother in their uniforms this summer.  I was so honored that they asked me.  Isn’t their son Carter the cutest!

Here are a few photos of Nicole and her brother in their uniforms.

Baker Wedding

What a fabulous, exciting, and emotional wedding.  I was tearing up all over the place at this wedding.  (and that rarely happens)  Zach and Allyson were so cute together- giddy, always smiling, and tears streaming everywhere.  I loved it.  Not to mention the venue was awesome and the music was INCREDIBLE!  I am so honored and excited that I was a apart if this beautiful wedding.

Zach and Allyson’s photos are available to view and purchase HERE.  Enjoy!
